Changelog FishEye

Elephant logs the chat for you in the background. It saves the WHISPERS, RAID, BATTLEGROUND, PARTY, SAY, YELL, OFFICER and GUILD chats separately, but also all general chats (General, Trade, LocalDefense, ...), custom chats you are currently on, loots and system messages (auctions, rolls, server going down, ...) and combat. When you want to read the logs, simply click on the Elephant icon in the FuBar (or type /elephant), then choose one of the chat icon on the right.

This is THE AddOn that you should install if you want to manage hell tells or simply go AFK for a few minutes. It is also perfectly designed for Guild Leaders, Officers and Raid Leaders particularly because it restores the chats when you get disconnected.

Main features:

  • Logs the chats in the background.
  • Logs up to 1000 lines for each chat! (Blizzard's default is 161 lines for evertything)
  • Restores the chats at login after you logged out or got disconnected.
  • Display the chats separately in their own colours.
  • Copy the chat and paste it in other applications.
  • Save the chats and the combat log in two different files on your computer.

Other features:

  • Enable/disable logging for each chat.
  • Movable frame.
  • Slash commands.
  • Bind a key to toggle Elephant.
  • Enable or disable logging by default when you join a new channel.
  • Objects in the main window are displayed in their proper color and are clickable.
  • Player names in the main window are clickable.
  • Clear the logs separately or all at the same time.

The history

ChatLog 1.0 was created the 05/06/2006 because I was bored to always lose my discussions when I was disconnected. This was really a problem in raids too because I couldn't go AFK for even one minute or I would lose the strategy in one hundred lines of spam (yeah, my guild does not use TeamSpeak). And the last annoying thing was those people telling me in /w "Did you see my message?" 5 minutes after their last message...

At the beginning it was a quite simple addon, saving only the basic channels (Whisper, Raid, Party, ...) and restoring them at the login. But it rapidely seems that a lot of things were missing: users wanted to be able to save custom chats, to disable chats they did not want to save, to click on items/players in the log, to be able to copy it to the clipboard, ...

Since then, all these functionnalities have been added to Elephant and in 4 months, more than 10 000 users downloaded the AddOn on Curse-Gaming. But I received the most beautiful reward from the users themselves: a German and a Chinese translation, thanks to harl, Antikleia & 月色狼影.

ChatLog has since been renamed to Elephant, due to a growing demand coming from the users. "ChatLog" was not perfectly showing what was doing the addon and moreover a lot of people were confusing the name with the Prat "chatlog" functionnality.

Elephant is now Ace2

A few months after Elephant was created, I discovered the wonderful libraries offered by Ace2, and after being convinced of their usefulness, I decided to take the code all over again and to convert it to Ace2. Now that it is done, it is actually more stable, more powerful and more easy to use than before.

As before, I would be please to have feedback on the AddOn. If you discovered a bug or if you have any suggestion, please feel free to post on the WoWAce forums (I will be adding a new topic when the AddOn will be available on SVN) or on Curse-Gaming. See you in Azeroth!
